Another strike at De Lijn, this time bus services in the Westerlo and Tremelo are affected

Once again bus drivers that work for the Flemish public transport company De Lijn are taking industrial action. Today (Monday 28 October), drivers at the Tremelo depot in Flemish Brabant and the Westerlo depot in Antwerp Province have walked out.

The strike is the latest in a series of walkouts by drivers at De Lijn in recent weeks. The drivers are unhappy at De Lijn’s plans to scrap some bus routes and to introduce new shift rosters from January that will result in drivers being required to work more split shifts.

De Lijn’s Anneliese Meynaerts told journalists that “Drivers at 2 depots, in Westerlo and Tremelo, walked out on Monday morning and this has caused disruption to services in these areas. In Tremelo, this mainly concerns lines 520 (Mechelen-Tremelo) and 530 (Mechelen-Aarschot-Tremelo)”.

Ms Meynaerts added that passengers are advised to consult De Lijn’s online route planner either on the website www.delijn.be via the Flemish public transport company’s app.

She also said that talks aimed at finding a resolution to the dispute are ongoing and De Lijn regrets any disruption caused by the strike action.
