Further disruption to bus service in Antwerp province due to strike by drivers

Once again today (Tuesday 22 October) there is disruption on the Flemish public transport company De Lijn’s bus services in Antwerp Province. As was the case on Monday drivers at the Turnhout, Hoogstraten, Oostmalle, Mol and Wuutstwezel depots are refusing to work in protest at new shift rosters that will take effect from January. The new rosters will see an increase in the number of split shifts that drivers are obliged to work.

Meanwhile, industrial action at one of De Lijn’s subcontractors is also causing disruption to services in the Tisselt, Edegem and Mechelen areas of Antwerp Province.

De Lijn advises passengers to check on its website www.delijn.be or its app to see if the bus service they wish to used is running.

New shift rosters

The drivers are unhappy about new shift rosters that are due to come into force from January. An increase in the number of split shifts that drivers will be obliged to work is something that many of them find unacceptable.

Meetings between unions and management to try and resolve the dispute are planned for today and tomorrow.
