De Lijn services well beyond Brussels are affected.

Severe disruption to De Lijn bus services in Vlaamse Rand and Dender Region due to walk-out

A walk-out by drivers at bus stations in the parts of Flemish Brabant Province bordering Brussels aka the Vlaamse Rand has caused heavy disruption to bus services in Brussels, Halle, Ninove, Asse, Dendermonde, Vilvoorde and Grimbergen: not a single bus is currently running.

‘We regret that this spontaneous strike is happening,’ says Marco Demerling of Flemish local transport company De Lijn. ‘We apologise for the inconvenience to passengers. School buses are also affected, so that does cause major inconvenience.’

Drivers disagree with new timetables

Drivers decided not to take their buses out onto the roads this morning following consultations about the new duty rosters for January next year. The drivers say management is not taking account of what is feasible. Earlier this month, there was also disruption in Leuven and Tielt-Winge (Flemish Brabant).

Still need a bus? Check what disruption could be affecting your bus via De Lijn's route planner on its website. ‘Journeys that are not taking place will not feature in the system,’ said Mr Demerling.

It’s unclear how long the strike will last.  De Lijn management is meeting union representatives at various locations and times this afternoon.
