Gallic specialities at Winter Wonders in Brussels this Christmas

Soon, mulled wine and yule log will once again be available in the Brussels downtown as the 24th edition of Winter Wonders, known in Dutch as Winterpret, kicks off. The annual Christmas market is held from 29 November to 5 January. This year’s event will also have a particular Gallic flavour, as the French department Var is the guest of honour.

Traders from the Var will soon take up residence in chalets on the square outside Brussels old stock exchange building. Against the backdrop of the cosy atmosphere of the Christmas market, they will present their specialities to Belgian visitors and foreign tourists alike. Visitors will be able to enjoy wine, truffles and olive oil from this southern department of metropolitan France that includes cities that speak to the imagination like Saint-Raphaël, Toulon and Saint-Tropez!

This year, the traditional Christmas market with its Alpine chalets, merry-go-rounds and Ferris wheel stretches from the Beursplein over the Sint-Katelijneplein, the Grote Markt, the Brouckèreplein and the Vismarkt. Brussels’ Gothic market square provides the customary backdrop for the majestic Christmas tree and the nativity scene. The Christmas market is open daily from 12 noon till 10 pm.

The full programming of Winter Wonders will be announced next month.
