In Ninove, Guy D'Haeseleer is eying an absolute majority with his far-right ‘Forza Ninove’ party. He is a member of the Flemish parliament for the far-right Vlaams Belang party. If he takes power, it will be the first time a far-right administration takes control of a Flemish municipality since the war.
Mr D'Haeseleer has questions about the timing of the investigation launched by the East Flanders public prosecutor's office just as his Forza Ninove party appears to be achieving a major victory in the city.
On the basis of unofficial results Mr D'Haeseleer claims that his party has currently won about 50 per cent of the vote in Ninove.
