Belgium went a goal down after just 2 minutes when Andrea Cambiaso scored for Italy. Without De Bruyne and Lukaku the Belgians were nowhere to be seen and it was only going to be a matter of time before Italy widened their lead. The second Italian goal came on 22 minutes from Mateo Retegui. Italy seem to be cruising towards a comfortable win.

The game-changer came on 39 minutes when Italy’s Lorenzo Pellegrini was sent off for a foul on Arthur Theate. Belgium were back in business 3 minutes later when Maxime De Cuyper scored what was his first international goal.

There was everything to play for in the second half. With a man down the Italians strove to hang on to what was still a 2-1 lead. Belgium besieged the Italian penalty area. The equalizer came on 61 minutes through Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard. It was a difficult half for the Italians but they didn’t crack. The match ended 2-2. Italy are top of the Nations League group with 7 points from 3 games. France that play Belgium in Brussels on Monday are second with 6 points and Belgium are third with 4 points from 3 games. Israel are fourth, having failed to take a single point so far.
