The victim was kidnapped on Sunday night in the Kerckxstraat in Elsene. He had been forced into a car and was found on a road near Ter Kameren Wood around 3am on Tuesday morning.

‘The victim sustained several injuries but is not in any danger,’ says Yasmina Vanoverschelde of the Brussels public prosecutor's office. ‘He was taken to hospital for treatment.’

Nearby explosion

Several suspects have meanwhile been arrested. According to the public prosecutor's office, their possible involvement in the abduction is still under investigation.

A few minutes before the victim was kidnapped, an explosion occurred in the vicinity of the Kerckxstraat in Elsene. ‘A can of petrol exploded, but nobody was injured,’ the prosecutor's office says. ‘A suspect has been arrested in connection with the explosion too.’

The prosecutor instructed forensic scientists from the federal police to attend the scene and collect evidence.

‘Initial findings point to a possible link between the two incidents, but this will have to be confirmed by the ongoing investigation,’ says Yasmina Vanoverschelde. ‘In the interests of the investigation, no further details can be communicated at this time.’
