Two new suspects have been arrested in the investigation into the fatal home invasion in the Brussels borough of Elsene in late August, the Brussels public prosecutor's office says. ‘The suspects were arrested in Portugal,’ noted spokeswoman Yasmina Vanoverschelde.
In late August, a 57-year-old French national living in Brussels was killed after being shot by several men. The man's son is thought to have agreed a date with another man via a dating application but was mugged at his own home. The 20-year-old's father woke up during the commotion and was shot dead when he tried to intervene. His wife and son were injured but survived.
Days after the attack, police were able to arrest a 24-year-old suspect. Meanwhile, the search for the others continued. Portugal’s daily Correio da Manha reported yesterday that 2 suspects had been arrested last week. ‘We can confirm the double arrest,’ says Yasmina Vanoverschelde of the Brussels public prosecutor's office.
According to Correio da Manha, the 2 suspects allegedly also committed similar attacks in Portugal and the Netherlands, where men who had agreed a date via the dating app Grindr were robbed and/or kidnapped. The Brussels prosecutor's office hasn’t been able to confirm this information yet.
