The figures that relate to average earnings in 2022, show that on average a person that is in full-time employment in Belgium earned 4,076 euro gross per month. This is almost 5% more than than in 2021 when the average gross monthly salary stood at 3,886 euro for a person in full-time employment.

At 3,728, the median gross monthly salary is lower than the average. Half of all people in full time employment in Belgium earned less than this in 2022, the other half more.

Executives working in big companies have the highest gross monthly salaries (11,772 per month). They earn almost three times the average gross monthly salary for those in full-time employment as a whole.

Carers working in crèches (2,567 euro), bar staff and waiters (2,610 euro) and hairdressers and beauticians (2,612) have the lowest average gross monthly salaries.

Stabel’s figures are drawn from an annual survey of more than 184,000 people that are in full time employment with companies that employ at least 10 people. The gross monthly salary figures take into account additional payments made for, for example, working nights or at weekend. However, exceptional payments such as end of year bonnuses and so-called 13th months are not taken into account when calculating the average salary.
