The woman was attacked on Sunday evening when she went to do her washing in the communal laundry that is located in the cellar of the block of flats where she lives. The woman was tied up before being sexually abused.
Her screams were heard by other residents of the flats on the Lenneke Marelaan. However, when they reached her, the woman’s attacker had already fled. She had been chained to a radiator.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment. The Halle-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal investigation.
Sabine Lievens of the Halle-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office told VRT News that "It is the case that on Sunday night we receive a report of a rape that had taken place at a block of flats. Whether there is a link to previous cases in the area will be examined as part of the investigation”.
