A strike by staff at the Flemish public transport company De Lijn has led to the cancellation of 55% of bus and tram services in Flanders today (Monday 23 September). Staff at De Lijn have downed tools in protest at the way in which management at the Flemish public transport company has communicated with staff about their work roster for 2025. The unions say that staff have not been consulted about the roster.
More than half of all bus and tram services in Flanders cancelled due to a strike by staff at De Lijn
Federik Wittock of De Lijn told journalists that as drivers are obliged by law to tell De Lijn whether or not they would be joining the strike planner had been able to draw up an emergency timetable.
De Lijn says that around 55% of services will not be running today. However, this is an average for the whole of Flanders and there are big differences between the various provinces in our region.
In Antwerp Province around 48% of services are running.
In East Flanders 38% of bus and tram services are running
In Flemish Brabant 52% of services are running.
54% of bus services in Limburg Province are running today.
West Flanders is the province that is hardest hit by the strike. Just 36% of services are running there.
