Spanish police have arrested the fugitive Haredin Fejzulla, who was wanted by the authorities in Belgium for drugs offences.
Fejzulla, 59, who is Albanian, has been on Europe and Belgium’s Most Wanted lists since last year. Courts in Brussels have convicted him several times on charges including drug trafficking, sentencing him to a total of 18 years in prison.
According to the federal police, Fejzulla was unmasked in 2019 “after thorough investigation by the Brussels-North police zone as the leader of a criminal organisation”.
He had already been sentenced to 18 years in several cases: by the court in Brussels to nine and four years in prison and by the court of appeal in Brussels to another five years. In each case, these included convictions for drug trafficking and membership of a criminal organisation.
Spanish police arrested Fejzulla last Thursday in Madrid. He will be extradited to Belgium to serve his sentences.
