2 children were critically injured when the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree in the East Flemish town of Aalter. The local police service reports that the precise circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear.
The accident happened at around 7pm on Tuesday evening on the Weststraat in Aalter. A woman and her 3 children were in the car when, for an as yet unknown reason, she lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a tree. The woman and 1 of the children sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The 2 other children were taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The emergency services were at the scene very quickly as the children’s father was driving in his own car behind his wife and was able to call 112 straight away. An accident investigation expert has been appointed to find out the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
