Belgian ticket holder wins 149 million euros on EuroMillions, 3rd highest amount ever in Belgium

Somebody in Belgium won 149,017,789 euros on EuroMillions, the pan-European lottery, last weekend. Belgium’s National Lottery says this is the 3rd highest amount ever won by a Belgian ticket holder.

The winning numbers were 12, 14, 34, 41 and 47. Stars numbers 3 and 4 came out tops.

It is the third highest win in the history of the game in Belgium. Only in 2016 (168 million euros) and 2017 (almost 154 million euros) did a Belgian ticket holder win an even bigger amount.

What happens to the winner now?

We don't yet know who the winner is. Chances are we will never know. Euromillions winners, as well as winners of all other National Lottery games, can collect their prize anonymously by contacting the National Lottery. So, contrary to popular belief, winners do not have to report to the point of sale where they bought the winning lottery ticket.

Moreover, if you have won more than 100,000 euros, you are even required to visit the National Lottery headquarters. The winner of the 149 million euros must now contact the ‘winner support’ team to make an appointment at headquarters. There, he or she has to sign in with the winning ticket, identity card and bank account number.

There is no rush, by the way: the winner has 20 weeks from the draw to report in.
