Suspect gets order for cocaine during police questioning

A man being questioned by police about a bicycle theft in Antwerp was caught with cocaine in his pocket. The drugs possession came to light when the 22-year-old showed police his mobile phone to corroborate his story. At that very moment the young man received a text message asking for an order of 1 gram of cocaine. The suspect was arrested on the spot and remains in detention.

It was last weekend that the suspect was being questioned for a non-drug-related offence: for a bicycle theft. The officers were surprised when they suddenly saw a text message appear asking for cocaine.  It arrived by chance during their questioning.

The police proceeded to detain the 22-year-old and examine his mobile phone. It transpired that the suspect was a Spanish national, who was wanted by police in his home country.  He also had  1 gram of cocaine in his pocket.

The police investigation revealed that the Spaniard had been selling cocaine and hashish for over 5 months. During two house searches, 150 narcotic pills and other drugs were found. Pepper spray was also confiscated.

An examining magistrate decided the suspect should remain in custody.
