City of Brussels launches grant to help pay for dog training

The City of Brussels is starting a grant for dog owners, who attend dog training sessions with their animal.  The grant worth 50 euros is intended to pay part of the cost of getting your dog properly trained.  The city authorities argue that dog training benefits society by teaching people and their dogs to share space and respect common rules.

The grant works out at 50 euros per dog, with a maximum of 3 dogs per family, explains Zoubida Jellab, alderman for animal welfare in the City of Brussels.

Dogs must attend at least three training sessions. The owner must have their domicile in the City of Brussels (Postcode 1000), Laken (1020), Neder-over-Heembeek (1120) or Haren (1130).

‘By educating our four-legged friends correctly, we not only avoid potential safety issues, but also and above all improve the well-being of our animal companions,’ Ms Jellab explains.

Only courses that focuse on acquiring basic principles of dog training, socialisation or solving behavioural problems qualify. Advanced dog training courses are also eligible, but courses in dog sports or hunting, do not entitle you to the grant.
