Ewoud Vromant has won a silver medal for Team Belgium at the Paralympic Games in Paris. After having seemed destined to take gold in the C2-Class time trial in Clichy-sous-Bois, he was pipped at the post by the French rider Alexandre Léauté. Léauté won the race with 2 seconds to spare. Ewoud Vromant took silver for Belgium.
The Belgian cyclist put everything he had into the time trial, and it showed. Vromant quickly zoomed past his opponents and set the fastest time after 5.8 km: 6'55"85.
The defending champion Darren Hicks and Alexandre Léauté, his nemesis on the track, were also up in front along with the Belgian.
Despite finished strongly with at time of 19'26"61 Vromant just missed out on gold. As was the case 3 years ago in Tokyo, he came in 2nd place with the 23-year-old French rider Léauté finishing 2 seconds faster than the Belgian. The reigning champion Hicks came in third.
