Those behind the new service say that each year it should result in 11,000 fewer lorry journeys and 2,600 tonnes less CO2 being emitted.
A total of 42 containers per journey will be transported. The service will connect with other rail and maritime freight services, including to the UK and Ireland, at Zeebrugge.
The service uses a new loading and unloading method in which the entire set of wagons to be unloaded is disconnected and replaced with already loaded wagons. The method reduces loading time.
