On 22 August detectives from the Brussels-West police zone (incorporating Molenbeek, Ganshoren, Jette, Koekelberg and Sint-Agatha-Berchem) searched five premises as part of an investigation into members of a Brussels urban gang. ‘This is a gang involved in committing violent thefts and beatings that led to injuries,’ police say. ‘The members of this gang are very violent and operate mainly in parks and metro stations.’

All five suspects arrested are minors. ‘They are youngsters aged 15 to 17, known to the authorities on account of several offences committed in the first months of this year,’ the prosecutor's office says.

3 of the suspects were arraigned at the Brussels prosecutor's office.  A youth magistrate then placed them in a centre for juveniles. The 2 other suspects are under the jurisdiction of Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutors. There the youth magistrate decided to place one of them in an institution, the other was released.
