Fatal shooting in Machelen: row between neighbours gets out of hand (VIDEO)
It was in the Blijde Inkomststraat in Machelen around 8 pm yesterday evening that an argument between neighbours got out of hand and ended in a shooting. Two people were shot during the incident Ingrid Moriau of the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor's office explains.
One of the victims, aged 43, is dead and the other, aged 19, was seriously injured and is fighting for his life. He is the nephew of the man killed and is now in a stable condition. A 61-year-old suspect has been arrested following a manhunt, the public prosecutor's office says. He fled the scene and was stopped by police during a chase. He and other witnesses will be questioned today. It's believed the suspect also threatened the dead man's wife and another neighbour and also shot at the dead man's 15-year-old son. All remained unhurt.
Officials from the local prosecutor's office are at the scene to establish what exactly happened. A police doctor, a weapons expert and forensic technicians have also been called in.
