The launch of a new selection procedure for candidates wishing to join the Antwerp Local Police Service has been a great success. The 28 places available were filled within just a few hours. Those selected to train as a police officer will be able to gain up to 4 months' experience working for the police before they complete their selection tests.
Last month the Antwerp Local Police Service launched a new recruitment campaign. Those that have signed up for 1 of the 28 places available to train as police officers will be able to gain practical experience of police work before they take the tests required for them to become fully-fledged policemen and women.
After just 6 hours all 28 place were filled. This was much quicker than expected.
Kim Bastiaans of the Antwerp Local Police Service told VRT News that "We hope that as few people as possible drop out thanks to the intensive guidance that they will be given. This is the big advantage we have here at the Antwerp Local Police Service. Here we provide extra guidance before, during and after the selection procedure. The 28 people selected will be paid the same as civilian staff."
For several years now Antwerp Police has run its own selection procedure for new recruits. Other local police services recruit via the Federal Police Service.
