Audi workers plan big demonstration in Brussels on 16 September

The unions that represent staff at the Audi Brussels car factory in the Brussels municipality of Vorst have announced that they plan to hold a demonstration in the centre of Brussels on Monday 16 September. The announcement was made during a meeting held on Tuesday morning.

The demonstration is in protest at job losses and the possible closure of the plant.

Grégory Dascotte of the socialist trade union ABVV told journalists that "In order to achieve our aims we will have to take our battle outside the confines of the factory so that we can get our message across to the general public, politicians and the management of the Volkswagen group (of which Audi is a part)”.

On 9 July Audi announced a restructuring plan for its Brussels plant. The aim is to shed up to 1,500 jobs (around half the total workforce) in October. A further 1,100 jobs could be lost during the course of next year with the factory possibly closing completely at the end of 2025.
