A series of events that wouldn't have looked out of place in the 1970s British sitcom ‘Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em’ befell a 67-year-old man from the Flemish Brabant municipality of Overijse on Thursday night. The pensioner was returning home from an evening out with his wife when he felt the urge to go for a pee. He parked up, got out of his car and was going to urinate at the side of the road.
Urgent call of nature results in Overijse pensioner being run over by his own car and falling into a ditch
However, he had forgotten to put the car into parking mode and his vehicle rolled forward and knocked him over into a ditch next to the road. The incident occurred on the N253, the road that links Overijse with Leuven at around 1:45am.
The man had got out of his car at the top of the Smeysberg in Huldenberg. He forgot to put the car that has an automatic gearbox into parking mode and car stated to move forward. The pensioner was knocked over and he fell into a ditch. His wife got out of the car to help her husband, but the car carried on down the road.
The car eventually crashed into an advertising hoarding in the Stroobantstraat and came to a halt in a field on the Holstheide, around 400 metres from where they had got out. The man was not injured and tested negative for alcohol.
