W-Festival in Ostend has been cancelled as the organisation has filed for bankruptcy. The annual music festival on the beach was scheduled to take place at the end of the month.
Ostend’s W-Festival files for bankruptcy after disappointing ticket sales
Around 30,000 people attended last year’s event, but tickets for the latest edition were said to have been disappointing.
“After years of struggle, the last notes have been played on the W-Festival stage,” organisers say on the event’s website. “As an organisation, we have taken far-reaching steps to keep the business going, but we now have to make the heartbreaking decision to throw in the towel just weeks away from the start of the festival.”
The bankruptcy of ticket provider Festicket in 2022 and the pandemic also affected the event’s finances. “After years of dedication and various damage limitation initiatives, it is no longer possible for the W-Festival to keep the business behind the organisation afloat,” the organisers say.
It is unclear whether people who had already bought tickets will be refunded.
