The “canines welcome” announcement was made by the organisers of the exhibition earlier this month. The exhibition opened in early and runs until Sunday 5 January 2025.

It is housed in one of the magnificent historic buildings on Brussels’ central market square the Grote Markt. 215 photographs by the Franco-American artist are on display. The exhibition includes an entire section devoted to photographs of dogs.

In his photographs, Elliott Erwitt invites us to take "the dog's point of view" by looking at thinks from at ground level. With his work he hopes to show humanity in a different way.

He took thousands of photographs that he used to compile three books. In the preface to his book "Vie de Chien" (A dog’s life) the artist, who died last year, wrote: "This is not a book about dogs".

Dog owners are invited to share the experience with their pet, either on a lead or in a basket, on provision that the animal is not dangerous.

The "Elliott Erwitt. A retrospective" exhibition has been designed and curated by Tempora the Belgian agency that specialises in the design, production, promotion and management of museums, exhibitions and cultural facilities, in collaboration with Magnum Photos.

The exhibition can be visited every day except Tuesdays. It is open on Tuesdays that are public holidays or fall withing school vacations. The exhibition runs until 5 January 2025 at Grote Markt 5, 1000 Brussels. Click here for more information.
