Over the next few weeks, the province of Flemish Brabant is organising multiple activities to promote Hageland wine across Europe. The Sprankelend Hageland (Sparkling Hageland) campaign will see lots of wine producers open up to the public.
Sparkling Hageland campaign aims to put centuries-old wine tradition on the map
Sprankelend Hageland is designed to promote viticulture in and outside Belgium. “We are working with Haspengouw and Dutch Limburg to put our viticulture on the map throughout Europe and even the world,” says deputy Gunther Coppens.
The annual event lasts three weeks, from 17 August to 8 September. There will be tastings, performances and other activities where people can experience the Hageland wine tradition.
That tradition can be found all over this part of Flanders. “Many street names here refer to viticulture,” Coppens says. “The tradition here goes back to the Middle Ages, so the Hageland has been typified by grape growing and wine growing for centuries.”
Besides tastings and performances, visitors are also encouraged to visit the area for cycling or hiking.
