The East Flemish prosecutor’s office reports that a fire in mid-June at hotel in the Dampoort area of Ghent was started deliberately. The fire resulted in the death of a 25-year-old man. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The fire at the Hotel Dampoort on the Pilorijnstraat broke out at around 7:45am on 15 June. The fire service had the blaze under control within 15 minutes. Nevertheless, the fire claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.
The fire had started in his hotel room and the fire expert assigned to the case says that there are enough indications to say that the fire was started deliberately. It is not yet clear whether the man intended to take his own life. The East Flemish prosecutor’s office says that the investigation into the fire is still ongoing.
