The Zaventem (Flemish Brabant)-based airline Brussels Airlines recorded an operating profit of 11.6 million euro between 1 April to 30 June 2024. This is almost 20 million euro less than the operating profit of 31 million euro that the airline recorded during the same period last year.
During the first 6 months of the year Brussels Airlines made an operating loss of 47 million euro. Strikes early in the year contributed to the scale of the losses. Meanwhile, at 3.9 million, passenger numbers were at around the same level as they were during the first half of last year.
Demand for airline tickets remains high and Brussels Airlines is seeing strong results during the summer months. The airline expects to make a profit for the year as a whole. "With roughly similar results to 2023, which was a record year”, Brussels Airlines said in a statement released on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the airline has added an additional Airbus A330 to its fleet and also added Nairobi to its list of destinations.
