For the first time this year, Belgium witnessed a day of tropical temperatures. A temperature of 30.5 degrees Celsius was measured at the Met Office in Ukkel (Brussels) just before 4PM. The Met Office has issued a heat warning and has declared a code yellow alert for today across Flanders bar the coast and West Flanders Province. The warning remains in place till tomorrow morning.
The Met Office had predicted highs between 25 and 33 degrees inland today. On the coast highs of around 26 degrees were expected. The hot weather is due to high-pressure over the Czech Republic that is sending warm air over France towards Belgium.
Thunderstorms on the way!
Tonight there is already a small chance of (thundery) showers, especially along the French border. Tomorrow will remain warm and balmy with highs between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. Locally, some thunderstorms may occur.
Tomorrow evening, the chance of an intense thunderstorm will increase. The Met Office speaks of possible hail showers and gusty conditions. Thursday will be changeable with occasional showers.
