In a statement issued on Friday afternoon the Leuven Public Prosecutor’s office said that the suspect is a 16-year-old boy from Willebroek (Antwerp Province). The Mechelen section of the Antwerp Judicial Authorities will decide what further action will be taken with regard to the suspect.

Earlier this week a first suspect was apprehended. Like the second suspect he had  been placed under the supervision of a guardian, in his case in the East Flemish municipality of De Pinte. The first suspect is believed to have been the one that actually carried out the stabbing. The Leuven Public Prosecutor’s Office says that a third suspect has yet to be identified.

The stabbing took place last Friday evening at around 5pm. Two 17-year-old boys, one from Herrent, the other from Wijgmaal (both Flemish Brabant), were stabbed. They were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

One of the youths was in a critical condition for a time. Both victims have since been allowed to leave hospital and are now recovering at home.
