Delays to high-speed rail services to France after arsonists target French high-speed rail network

On the day of the official opening of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris a series of arson attacks that the French rail company SNCF describes as “simultaneous malicious acts” is causing serious delays on the French rail network. With dozens of high-speed trains leaving Brussels South for destinations in France each day, the disruption is being felt here in Belgium too.

The French rail company NMBS says that around 800,000 passengers will be impacted by the disruption. Meanwhile, the Belgian rail company NMBS warns of delays for passengers wishing to travel from Brussels to Paris, Charles de Gaulle Airport and other destinations in France today.

The high-speed rail operator Eurostar says that it services between Brussels and Paris are being diverted for part of their journey. For the length of the diversion, they will only be able to travel at a maximum speed of 150 km/h rather than the usual 300 km/h. This will increase journey times by 1.5 hours. Eurostar staff are on hand at Brussels South to provide information and assistance to passengers.

Passengers can also obtain information by email or text message. Anyone that wishes to can cancel their journey and either rebook or get a full refund.
