Corona alert among Belgian Olympians: “Some have been unable to travel to Paris after testing positive”

Covid is once again casting its shadow over the Olympics. Team Belgium is experiencing this this first-hand with some Belgian athletes not having been allowed to leave for Paris in recent days due after testing positive. As was the case in three years ago in Tokio COVID-19 is the word that is most feared by the organisers of the Paris Olympics.

No one among the athletes wishes to see three years’ work go down the drain due to a positive coronavirus test. However, the number of people testing positive has increased in recent weeks and athletes are no more immune to contracting the virus than anyone else. On Wednesday morning it emerged that a number of Belgian athletes have been unable to travel to Paris because they have tested positive for coronavirus.

The Belgian Olympic Committee’s Chief Physician "It is indeed the case that a number of positive cases have been detected. These athletes will not be allowed to join our bubble until they are completely symptom-free and test negative”. It is not clear which members of Team Belgium have tested positive.
