Conner Rousseau has been re-elected as leader of the Flemish socialist party Vooruit. Together with deputy leader Funda Oru he polled 94 percent of the votes. Mr Rousseau was the only candidate. He takes over from acting leader Melissa Depraetere immediately.
Mr Rousseau resigned last November after he made racist comments about Roma people during a drunken rant in a pub late at night. But in the general election he polled 75,000 preferential votes in the East Flanders constituency.
After the general election Melissa Depraetere suggested that Mr Rousseau should return to the helm again at Vooruit. As of today, Mr Rousseau once again leads the party. His election will be reaffirmed during a party congress on 31 August.
