Suspect confesses to motorway carpark slaying after assignation is disturbed
Last Friday, police detained a suspect in connection with the motorway carpark killing. An examining magistrate questioned the suspect on Saturday. VRT understands the suspect proceeded to confess to the stabbing the 70-year-old.
The suspect is said to have told police that the victim harassed him while he was having sex in a grove close to the carpark. The suspect's sex partner is said to have left the scene, but a further discussion between the suspect and the 70-year-old is believed to have got out of hand.
Carpark is a gay sex haunt
The carpark used by car-poolers is known to be popular with men who have casual sex with men. The victim’s body was found in nearby woodland in early June.
The victim's family let it be known through their lawyer that they are relieved that someone has confessed. "We now calmly await the continuation of the investigation," they say.
Earlier in the investigation, another man was arrested but released. He had nothing to do with the killing.
