An alert resident contacted police upon seeing the shellfish scurry across the street in the town in Antwerp province
Nowhere near the coast, Wommelgem is not known for being home to ocean wildlife. But three lobsters and a crab were discovered crawling about the streets today in the town of 13,000 east of Antwerp.
A passerby alerted authorities upon seeing the group, and police quickly arrived at the scene. “The caller had already captured the critters when we got there,” said a police spokesperson. “Fortunately they crossed the street without suffering a scratch. We were able to return them to the owner alive and well.”
Though they won’t be that way for long: The owner runs a restaurant in the neighbourhood.
