Local transport strike hits buses and trams in greater Antwerp

As a result of industrial action, on average today, only 53 per cent of all buses and trams are running in the greater Antwerp region. Tram traffic is expected to experience more disruption than bus traffic according to Flemish public transport operator De Lijn.

Flemish local transport company De Lijn is currently holding talks with unions on organisational arrangements. According to the company, these only deal with practical issues like working conditions and the scheduling of drivers and journeys. "Some elements still need to be examined," said a De Lijn spokesperson. "We are looking at what is possible within the budget."

An alternative service has been worked out based on drivers’ willingness to work. De Lijn's route planner only shows journeys that are normally going to operate.
