A special works council has been announced at the Audi Brussels car plant in Vorst. The council at the plant whose future has been uncertain for some time starts at 7pm says socialist trade unionist Franky De Schrijver.
Special works council at Audi Brussels in Vorst: what can the 3,000-strong workforce expect?
Plant spokesman Peter D'hoore would only confirm that a special works council will take place today but would not comment on the timing or content.
The works council will most likely deal with planning for the coming years, the union official believes. According to Franky De Schrijver, it is "exceptional" for the management to communicate expected production volumes through a special works council.
De Schrijver has no idea what the 3,000-odd workers at the plant should expect.
There has been uncertainty about the future of the car plant for some time. From 2027 the successor to the current Audi Q8 e-tron model will no longer be built at the plant. The federal government has presented the carmaker’s German management with a series of support measures, hoping to secure the plant's future, but whether that will prove to be enough still needs to be seen.
