Break-in at a customs warehouse at Brussels Airport

A warehouse used by the Belgian customs to store drugs, cigarettes, alcohol and other goods that have been confiscated has been burgled. The warehouse is located in the cargo area of Brussels Airport in Flemish Brabant. The criminals that broke into the warehouse took a large quantity of cannabis and many thousands of cigarettes.

Published:

A total of 29 kilogrammes of cannabis was taken from the warehouse on the Brucargo site as were 270,000 counterfeit cigarettes. All of the goods stolen had been seized previously by police and/or customs. It was not the first time that a warehouse used by customs has been burgled.

In the not so recent past cocaine was stolen from a customs warehouse at the port of Antwerp. During that raid the criminals threatened security staff in order to gain access. Normally, confiscated cocaine is incinerated as quickly as possible, but at times the special incinerator used to destroy the drugs cannot keep pace due the sheer volume of drugs that have been confiscated.

The Belgian customs say that do not yet wish to comment on the latest incident.
