The Brussels public prosecutor's office confirms that the Brussels-West and Brussels-South police zones have received several complaints about such homophobic violence in recent weeks.
"Several victims were contacted via a dating app," says spokesperson Yasmina Vanoverschelde. "When they arrived at the meeting place, they were attacked by several people, were insulted and received blows. Some of them were even robbed."
According to Le Soir, at least five cases have been reported, all in the last two weeks of June. In each case, the victims allegedly agreed to meet in a park after establishing contact via a dating app popular among gay men. The offender or offenders used a fake account to do so.
The Brussels public prosecutor's office is investigating the reports.
