Drivers on Brussels inner ring face disruption as road surface damaged by heat

Flanders’ Roads and Traffic Agency expects another day of disruption on the Brussels inner ring road near Sint-Stevens-Woluwe after part of the road surface was damaged by hot weather. “To carry out the repairs safely, we will probably have to close three lanes of traffic,” the agency said.

The surface was damaged just before the junction of the ring road and the E40 in Sint-Stevens-Woluwe. Two of the three lanes were closed on Thursday morning as a result. The road will have to close completely during the day to allow the roads agency to carry out repairs.

All traffic, including towards Vierarmen and Waterloo, will have to use the two lanes of the parallel carriageway normally used only by traffic taking the E40 towards Liège and Brussels.

Other roads in Flemish Brabant also had problems caused by the heat, including in Wolvertem, on the A12 towards Antwerp, where the road surface buckled and traffic could only use one lane. The damage has since been repaired.
