Police in Mechelen (Antwerp Province) have apprehended a 30-year-old man that they caught travelling at speeds of 70 km/h on an e-scooter. Checks on the scooter found that it was capable of reaching speeds of up to 85 km/h.
Officers from the Rivierenland Local Police Service spotted the e-scooter on the Postzegellaan in Mechelen. It immediately caught their attention as it was travelling at the same speed as the cars that were on the road at the time (around 70 km/h).
The police pulled the e-scooter rider over and tests were carried out on the scooter. It was found to be capable of reaching speeds of up to 85 km/h. The e-scooter was confiscated and later will probably have to be forfeited by its owner.
It’s not the first time that an e-scooter capable of reaching high speeds has been confiscated by the police. In Antwerp, the police have already confiscated several e-scooters that were capable of reaching speeds of 95 km/h.
