The police services do of course check motorists for alcohol and drug use every day of the year. However, at regular intervals “Weekend Without Alcohol” operations are held involving both the Federal and local police services. The aim is to draw attention to the dangers of drug and alcohol use when driving.

At the end of June last year during a “Weekend Without Alcohol” operation the Belgian federal and local police checked around 28,000 drivers. Just under 2.3% of them had too much alcohol in their blood or were found to be driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs.
