Just two days after the elections Wallonia there is already an agreement for the formation of a new Walloon Government and a new government for the Francophone Language Community. The leaders of the Francophone liberal and Christian democrat parties (MR and Les Engagés) announced that they have agreed to form a new regional and a new language community government at a joint press conference held on Tuesday afternoon.
The MR and Les Engagés also intend to form one block during the forthcoming negotiations for a new federal government. One will not join a new coalition without the other, the party leaders say.
The Francophone liberal leader Georges-Louis Bouchez and the Francophone Christian democrat leader Maxime Prévot told journalists that work on negotiating a coalition agreement will start straight away. Between 2017 and 2019 the two parties were together in the Walloon Government.
Since what was then still called cdH became Les Engagés it has moved to the centre-right under its leader Maxime Prévot. This transformation has made it easier for the party to work together with the right-of-centre MR.
Together MR and Les Engagés 43 of the 75 seats in the Walloon Parliament.
