Political scientist Carl Devos: ‘Greens are big victors in Brussels’
Political scientist Carl Devos calls the situation in Brussels ‘a different world’. Unlike in the rest of the country, the Flemish ecologists of Groen are the big winners among the Dutch-speaking parties. ‘Good move – the regional government’s mobility plan - has not led to losses for the greens among Dutch-speakers,’ he says. ’The result of Team Fouad Ahidar (a breakaway from Flemish socialist Vooruit) he labels surprising. According to Mr Devos, people were looking out to see if the far-right Vlaams Belang and the Flemish nationalist N-VA would have a so-called blocking majority. "Whether, in other words, the other Flemish parties could form a Flemish majority without those two. It’s quite possible, because Green is the big victor" says Mr Devos.
