King Albert at 90: new royal photos with King Filip and Crown Princess Elisabeth

King Albert II turns 90 today and that is a record: no other King of Belgians has reached this age.  The royal palace today released four new photos to mark the occasion: a portrait photo and photos with King Filip (64) and Crown Princess Elisabeth (22).

King Albert II is now the longest-living King of the Belgians. His father Leopold III lived to the age of 81. Albert celebrated his birthday at a sushi restaurant in Antwerp on Tuesday and will also celebrate his birthday at home, at Belvédère Castle in Laken (Brussels), with a group of close friends.

On the occasion of his birthday, new photos were taken of the king with his successors: his son, the reigning King of Belgians, King Filip, and his granddaughter, Crown Princess Elisabeth. King Albert abdicated in 2013 at the age of 79. At the time he was the oldest reigning King of Belgians.

After the celebrations for his birthday, King Albert, who retained his title after his abdication, will leave for the south of France. On 2 July King Albert and his wife, Queen Paola, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. A family celebration is planned to mark this blue sapphire wedding anniversary.
