The man’s body was found by police on the slip road that leads to the Antwerp-bound carriageway of the E34 in Oelegem, near Ranst (Antwerp Province). The man had been reported missing on Monday and it was as part of the search to attempt to find him that the police discovered his body next to the slip road. VRT News sources say that the man is from the nearby municipality of Zoersel.

The police and the prosecutor’s office currently suspect foul play and a murder investigation has been opened.

Forensics officers and a pathologist have gone to the scene. The investigation is still ongoing, and no suspects have yet been detained. The motive for the suspected murder is also unclear. In a statement the Antwerp Prosecutor’s Office said that “The circumstances will be investigated”.
