"My wife thought it was a Malinois sheepdog" says Martin.

Wolf appears at the window while Martin and Margriet have their brekky

Martin and Margriet got the shock of their lives when a wolf appeared at the back window when they were sitting at the breakfast table in Dilsen (Limburg). “It scared the hell out of me," Martin told VRT. Margriet first thought it was a dog but the couple sent a picture to the not-for-profit organisation Welcome Wolf, which confirmed that it was a wolf after only 2 minutes. "What an experience!" exclaimed Martin. "Only our cat was not too happy about it. She is still off her milk."

"My wife thought it was a Malinois sheepdog. I immediately knew it was a wolf," Martin says. "I took a picture when the animal pushed its snout against the back window. I forwarded the snap to Welcome Wolf, which maps out the wolf population in Flanders. Within two minutes I got confirmation that it was a wolf."

The wolf walked around Martin and his wife's terrace for about 5 minutes. "It looked like it was a tame animal. At no point was the animal aggressive. I thought it was quite something to see”.

The wolf eventually disappeared into the hedge heading for the neighbours. "When I went to check in the garden, I saw that the wolf had left some nasal mucus on our window. Welcome Wolf came to take a DNA sample. In that way they can see whether it is a wolf that has been spotted before in Flanders or whether the animal is from Germany or the Netherlands."
