The heavy rain that had been forecast for Limburg Province on Tuesday failed to materialise. People in Limburg breathed a huge sigh of relief as the rain would have come on top of very large amounts of rain that had fallen on the province in previous days. The province's three local fire services received hardly any emergency calls related to the weather.
No further flooding in Limburg Province as the heavy rain that had been forecast failed to materialise
In the Limburg municipality of Voeren, where the village of Moelingen suffered severe flooding on Friday night, both the river Voer and the river Berwijn didn’t burst their banks on Tuesday.
The predicted heavy rain fell a little further north in the Netherlands. Sanne Drees from the North Limburg Fire Service told VRT News that there were only minor problems in three towns in the north of Limburg Province. "In our provice Lommel was the only place where there was a cloudburst, but there was no flooding. In Bree, a cycle path flooded and in Pelt, a sewer could not cope with the quantity of rain and the water came back up."
No weather-related calls at all were received by the other two local fire services in Limburg.
There was no second night of flooding Voeren. In the villages in Voeren that were already affected by flooding at the weekend, precautionary measures were taken. The residents of many homes moved their furnatures from the ground floor to the first floor.
Fortunately, the heavy rain did not materialise. Despite high water levels the Rivers Berwijn and Voer did not burst their banks.
