A cloudburst yesterday in the late afternoon flooded several streets and basements in the centres of Hoogstraten and Wortel-Dorp borugh in Antwerp Province. The fire brigade received some 20 calls.
It was around 4.30 pm that water started pouring down from the heavens in Hoogstraten. Sewers couldn't cope with the amount of water and streets and basements were flooded.
"The fire brigade pulled out all the stops pumping away excess water," said Hoogstraten Mayor Marc Van Aperen. "It is very unpleasant for the people who have been affected. The water rose to half a metre in Moerstraat for a while."

Lightning struck homes in the Limburg towns of Maaseik and Genk 3 times in a matter of minutes. Fire also broke out in two of the three locations. In Genk, a neighbourhood was also without power. The fire brigade received dozens of calls about flooding in Bilzen and elsewhere after a heavy thunderstorm swept across the provinces of Limburg and Antwerp yesterday evening.
