"Especially in the course of the afternoon and evening, scattered, fierce thunderstorms may strike in several provinces with tens of millimetres of water in 1 or more hours," the warning reads.

From noon onwards, a code yellow warning applies in Luxembourg Province and in Namur, later in the afternoon also in Walloon Brabant, Liège, Brussels, Flemish Brabant, Limburg and Antwerp.

Showers may trigger flooding. Residents of the provinces of Limburg and Liège have already been hit by flooding in recent days, which means the risk of additional flooding is also high.

"Given the saturation of our soil on an extensive scale and local damage to waterway infrastructure in the Liège region, flooding is to be expected in several places, even with lower amounts of precipitation than usual".

As soon as the forecast is confirmed a more concerning amber code warning may apply in several provinces.
